Dragons use late rally to beat Wayne

PROCTORVILLE — It took a nine-run sixth inning to make Fairland coach Roger Snyder forget some of the bad things.

The Dragons were guilty of six errors but used the sixth inning rally to beat the Wayne (W.Va.) Pioneers 11-7 Tuesday.“It was frustrating again. We gave them runs, but then (Tyler) Godby came in and shut them down and we had a big inning,” said Fairland coach Roger Snyder.

Godby allowed only one run over the final four innings to hold the Pioneers at bay. He struck out one, walked one, and gave up just one hit.

Wayne went up 1-0 in the first inning, but Fairland came back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning.

Zac Jordan led off with a walk, Robbie Easterling was hit by a pitch, both moved up on a passed ball, a run scored when Tyler Thackston grounded out and then Ethan Long had an RBI single.

The Pioneers tied the game in the second and scored four more in the third inning to go up 6-2.

The score remained that way until Fairland erupted in the sixth.

Adam Berry walked to start the inning. Chad Fisher reached on an error, and Jordan had an infield hit to load the bases.

Chris Ward hit a two-run single, Easterling and Thackston had RBI singles, Long a two-run single, and Berry added an RBI single.

Fisher reached on and error, Jordan had a run-scoring single, and Easterling walked to force in a run.

The Dragons pounded out 14 hits with Long going 3-3, Jordan 3-4 and Fisher 2-4.

Fairland (5-1) hosts Rock Hill Wednesday.
