PEDRO — All the scoring was in one inning. But it was all the scoring the Rock Hill Redwomen needed.

Rock Hill used the pitching of Jazel DeAutremont, a strong defense and got all its hitting and scoring in one inning to blank the Northwest Lady Mohawks 3-0 Tuesday.

“Both teams played well. We had some hard hit balls to the outfield that they caught, and they had some hard-hit balls to the outfield that we caught. It was a good defensive game,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Harper.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning.

Megan Long singled to lead off , Brooke Skinner was hit by a pitch, and Kayla Kelley singled to load the bases.

Kristen Phillips walked to force home Long and it was 1-0.

Courtney Duncan hit a line drive base hit to left field as two more runs scored.

“When one hits they all start. It’s contagious for us it seems,” said Harper.

DeAutremont struck out six and walked one as she allowed just three hits.

Rock Hill (4-2) hosts River Valley Wednesday in a conference game.

CHESHIRE — It was a first for both the Fairland Lady Dragons and first-year coach Glenn Dillon.

Fairland outscored the River Valley Lady Raiders 16-10 Tuesday for their first win of the season and thus gave Dillon his first career coaching victory.

“We’re very young and our age is showing. It was nice to get that first win,” said Fairland first-year coach Glenn Dillon. “But we’re hustling and the girls are working hard.”

With the aid of three River Valley errors and a pair of stolen bases by Mackenzie Rucker, Fairland exploded for eight runs in the third inning to lead 9-1.

Rucker went 4-for-6 at the plate including a home run. She also got the pitching win as she struck out 10 and walked six.

The Lady Dragons had 19 hits with Amber Bias going 3-3, Whitney Boster 3-5, Keri Pinkerman 2-3, Traci Ryder 2-4, Stormie Spitzer 2-5, Sarah Simms 2-6 and Kathleen Blatt 1-4.

Fairland (1-2, 1-1) plays at South Point Wednesday in a league game. River Valley is 1-2 and 1-1 in the OVC.
