They pulled up in a truck with a trailer and intended to pull away with 1,000 feet of telephone wire but the long arm of the law nabbed one of the pair in his tracks.
Lawrence County authorities Thursday arrested one of two men who allegedly broke into the Verizon Telephone Co. Building on County Road 1 in South Point.
Chief Deputy Jeff Lawless said Kaleb Williamson, 25, of Huntington, W.Va., was charged with breaking and entering, vandalism and theft and was taken to the Lawrence County Jail. Efforts are underway now to find his accomplice.
At 5:45 a.m., deputies John Tordiff and Jerry Elliott were alerted to a possible break-in at the building and arrived to allegedly find Williamson in a Chevrolet Blazer
with a trailer attached that was loaded with approximately 1,000 feet of telephone cable. Lawless said the cable had been taken from a fenced storage yard.
The vehicle was towed and the wire returned.
