NEW BOSTON — Charity begins at home. Unfortunately for the Coal Grove Lady Hornets, they were on the road.
The New Boston Lady Tigers took advantage of their trips to the charity stripe as they got past the Lady Hornets 58-49 Saturday.
New Boston converted 15-of-27 free throws while the Lady Hornets were just 1-of-1 at the line.
Coal Grove coach Nick Miller was more concerned with his team’s overall shooting.
“We just couldn’t score. We couldn’t hit shots in the fourth quarter,” said Miller. “We played better than the other night, but we just can’t get any consistency.”
Jordyn Cox had 16 points and Taylor Sexton a career-high 15 to lead the Lady Hornets (2-4). Chelsea Delong added 12.
Kayla Wiley had 11 points in the first quarter as the Tigers went up 18-17. Cox countered with 8 and Danielle Carpenter had all 4 of her points.
Cox and Delong scored 5 each in the second quarter and Coal Grove trailed just 28-27 at the break.
Coal Grove took a 3-point lead in the third quarter as Sexton scored 8 points, but Missy Buckley had 7 points and Wiley 5 as New Boston rallied to go ahead 45-42.
New Boston outscored Coal Grove 13-7 in the fourth quarter.
Wiley had 19 points and Buckley 15 for New Boston (6-0).
In the reserve game, New Boston won 41-35. Doni Winters had 20 points for the Lady Hornets.
