PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redwomen must have been listening to their moms when they told
them, “Play nice and take turns.”
The Redwomen took turns scoring with nine different players in the scoring column as they beat the St. Joseph Female Flyers 50-28 Monday.
“The good thing is we got scoring out of nine different people and I’ll take that kind of balance. We’re going to need that,” said Redwomen coach Matt Fulks. “It was a good team effort.”
Leading the balanced offense was Brooke Long with 17 points. Ashlee Thacker added 10 points including 8 in the second half.
“We did well offensively. They zoned us and we got good looks and hit some shots, and we hit some out of transition and out of our defense,” said Fulks.
“St. Joe isn’t a bad team. They really battled.”
St. Joseph (0-2) was led by Charleigh Haas with 12 points. Danielle Blair got 7 points and Michelle Staton had 6 points.
Long scored 5 points in the first quarter as Rock Hill took a 13-4 lead.
The Redwomen went up 21-10 at the half. Long had 6 points in the third quarter to offset 4 by Blair and the difference remained the same at 30-19.
“We turned up the pressure a little bit in the second half and wore them down,” said Fulks.
