COAL GROVE — With Ironton’s Christmas Parade a memory, attention now turns to Coal Grove and its holiday festivities.
The village’s annual Christmas Parade will be at 6 p.m. Friday. The procession will leave the village hall on Carlton-Davidson Lane and take Marion Pike to Paul Porter Park.
Approximately 300 people will stand on the sidelines and watch the parade. Vickie McDaniel, one of the parade organizers, said some new faces may be smiling back at the spectators.
“Sunset Nursing Home is taking part this year and so is the bank (National City) in Coal Grove,” she said. “We have 30 entries in the parade. Of course the fire department and the police department will be in it. And the Coal Gove band will be in it.”
Once the procession makes its way to the park, Mayor Larry McDaniel will flip the switch on the thousands of lights in the holiday display. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served.
“I hope everyone enjoys it and enjoys all the new displays and takes pride in it,” McDaniel said.
The parade is sponsored annually by the Coal Grove Betterment Club. That organization and the Coal Grove Lions Club will co-sponsor the village’s annual Breakfast with Santa at 9 a.m. Dec. 8 at the Dawson-Bryant High School cafetorium.
