Ironton streets in dark

If it seems a little dark in downtown Ironton for the past couple of days, it’s not your imagination. Some of the streetlights haven’t been on since thunderstorms rolled through last Thursday.
Mayor John Elam said the city has a contract with American Electric Power to maintain the lights and the company has been called.
“We’ve been trying to figure out why the lights are out,” he said. “We did not have problems before the storm so we have to assume its storm related.”
Elam said he expects that AEP’s repair list is lengthy.
“We look for the lights to come on soon,” he said. “We called and reported it so we should be in the work cue.”
As for some of the stoplights, Elam said that it may be a problem with controllers.
“Some of them are old, archaic traffic signals and we are working to restore those back to working capacity,” he said.
