CHESAPEAKE — If you want to see bad weather, just schedule the Chesapeake Lions Club Invitational.

Last year, heavy rains washed away the final for events of the meet. Friday night snow and cold forced the stoppage of the meet after just 10 events in the boys and girls meets.

“I would have liked to have finished the meet, but it was tough under those conditions,” said Chesapeake coach Phil Davis. “The times weren’t that bad considering the weather. Kenny ran a nice time in the 100.”

Winfield (W.Va.) was the winner in both meets with identical 90 total points. Gallipolis was second in the girls meet and South Point was the boys’ runner-up.

In the boys’ meet, South Point racked up points in the field events.

Quay Logan won the high jump, Chris Smith threw 158-3 to take the discus and Drew Lynd leaped 17-8 1/5 to win the long jump.

Ironton’s John Paul Pemberton won the shot put with a 52-foot throw and Jon Monnig tied for first place in the pole vault at 10-6.

Chesapeake’s Kenny Morgan won the 100 meter dash in 11.4 seconds.

The only local girl to take first place in the girl’s meet was Sarah Lee from South Point who won the high jump at 4-10.
