Ironton tennis blanks Jackson

JACKSON — Second verse, same as the first.
The Ironton Fighting Tigers tennis team beat the Jackson Ironmen for the second times this season with a five-match sweep in the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League contest.
No. 1 singles player Lovell Medcalf stayed unbeaten with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Evan Stacey. No. 2 Rob Downs beat Jimmy Jones 6-1, 6-3 and Ironton’s J.C. Kinney whipped Zach Leach by identical 6-1, 6-3 scores.
In doubles plays, Ironton’s Austin Cornett and Demetrius Givens swept Josh Dearth and Luke Haynes 6-0, 6-0 while Matt Jones and Seth Craft stopped Scottie Webb and Greg Deniert 6-2,6-0.
In an exhibition play, Ironton’s Joey Pauley beat Ryan Mullens 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
Ironton is now 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in the SEOAL.
Ironton hosts Chillicothe Thursday in a league match and Wheelersburg on Friday as the Fighting Tigers look to avenge their only loss of the season.
Matches are played at Beechwood Park. Admission is free.
