CHILLICOTHE — Don’t ever give the other guy a head start.
That’s what the Rock Hill Redmen did Tuesday night as they fell behind with a scoreless first quarter and never recovered as they lost 55-43 to the Waverly Tigers in the Division II sectional tournament semifinals.
Waverly outscored Rock Hill 15-0 in the first quarter. The Redmen outscored the Tigers by 3 points the rest of the way, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.
Rock Hill rallied in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 25-16 at the half and trailed just 33-28 at the end of three quarters.
But Waverly outscored the Redmen 22-15 in the fourth quarter.
Mike Ison led Rock Hill (13-7) with 12 points. Matt Matney had 10 points.
Justin Hilton led all scorers with 20 points for Waverly (16-4). Trevor Walls scored 16.
Waverly plays at 7 p.m. Saturday against the McClain-Unioto winner.
