LANTHAM — Playing .500 percentage ball is okay in most instances, but not in a basketball game.
The Green Lady Bobcats only played well for half the game as they lost a 53-48 heartbreaker to the Western Lady Indians Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
“We just didn’t play well,” Green coach Dale Royse said. “Defensively, we didn’t do a bad job. Offensively, we just struggled.”
Elista Hall had a solid all-around performance for Green with 12 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Shay Richendollar added 11 points and Heidi Tackett pulled down 9 rebounds.
Kaylee Helton had a game-high 28 points to lead Western Pike. Shara Stratman scored 15.
Helton scored 9 points in the first quarter as Western went in front 11-10 over the Lady Bobcats.
In the second quarter, Helton came back to fire in 10 more points as the Lady Indians pulled away to a 26-16 halftime lead.
Green struggle with its offense again in the third quarter with a second straight single-digit scoring output and fell behind 38-25.
The Lady Bobcats came storming back in the fourth quarter to outscore Western 23-15 but couldn’t overcome the Lady Indians.
Green plays at 6 p.m. Monday at Symmes Valley in a varsity-only SOC game.
