SCIOTOVILLE — Sometimes, things aren’t the way they sound.
A good example would be listening to Green Lady Bobcats head coach Dale Royse after Thursday’s Southern Ohio Conference game against the Portsmouth East Lady Tartans.
“The game was kind of sloppy. I don’t know why but we weren’t real sharp in the first quarter, but we were better in the second quarter,” Royse said.
That may not sound good, but look at the final score and don’t listen to just one statement because the Lady Bobcats beat the East Lady Tartans 74-50.
Green had four players in double figures with Elista Hall and Adrianna Blankenship scored 17 points each. Hall also had 10 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists while Blankenship got 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Heidi Tackett had a solid game with 14 points, 7 steals and 6 rebounds. Shay Richendollar was in double figures with 11 points.
Actually, Royse was pleased with his team’s effort.
“That was nice to get a lot of people involved. We’re trying to push the ball more and it’s new for them,” Royse said.
“This is a very good group of kids and they’re very unselfish. Some of our turnovers are when we try to make an extra pass to someone.”
Green led just 14-13 after the first quarter, then erupted for 20 points in the second quarter to lead 34-24 at the break.
The Lady Bobcats continued their offensive assault in the third quarter as they built a 53-35 cushion and coasted to the win.
