New store offers off-road shop near Hanging Rock

It may have been the border line between north Ironton and Hanging Rock, but it may as well have been the finish line, as far as 11-year-old Tanner Brooks was concerned.
He zipped around the parking lot of the new Pit Stop parking lot on his Honda 90 mod four-wheeler as if he were sprinting for a trophy.
For Tanner Brooks, that four-wheeler is more than a toy: It is literally the vehicle to recognition. He won the Kentucky State Championship in the 90 mod class recently and he plans to race next week at the Lawrence County Fair.

You might argue that four wheeling and dirt bikes are in his blood, and you’d be right. It’s also in his bloodline. His older brother, John Brooks Jr., was into four-wheeling and now owns the Pit Stop that opened last week next to Casing Carriers tire shop on North Second Street. The Brooks family lives nearby in Hanging Rock and since the family already leases the building for the tire shop, adding the four-wheeler shop just made sense.
“We have something affordable for everyone in Lawrence County,” John Jr. said. “We don’t have anything over $1,500 and it’s all brand new. We sell Roketa products.”
John Brooks Sr. said he is pleased: Several area four-wheeling enthusiasts came into the new shop and left with wheels of their own. That first week in business was a successful one for the Pit Stop.
The store is open 12-6 Monday-Saturday. It employs three people.
