PEDRO — This time the Rock Hill Redwomen avoided the heartbreak.

After losing three games this season by one run, the Redwomen got a one-run win Monday as they beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 1-0 in the Division III sectional tournament.

“It’s about time we had one of those games go our way,” Rock Hill coach Mary Harper said. “We finally got that one run and that was all that mattered.”

The Redwomen had the bases loaded twice but were unable to score. They finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Brooke Long had a one-out double and was sacrificed to third base by Shelli Harper.

With Bobbi Harper at the plate, Chesapeake attempted to issue an intentional walk. However, the third pitch skipped off the catcher’s glove for a wild pitch allowing Long to score.

“I’m proud of our girls. They hung right in there. We played good defense again. Chesapeake has really improved,” coach Harper said.

Rock Hill, 15-7, plays at 5 p.m. Friday at Fairland in the sectional finals.
