AID — Ethan Long made short work of his pitching effort.
Long scattered six hits as the Fairland Dragons blanked the Symmes Valley Vikings 8-0 Friday.
Long struck out 15 and did not walk a batter as Fairland improved to 12-6. Tyler Thackston and Robbie Easterling drove in two runs each to back his performance.
“Ethan pitched a nice ball game. He was sharp tonight. He had everything going for him,” Fairland coach Roger Snyder said. “Thackston and Easterling have done a nice job the last couple of weeks hitting the ball.”
In the first, Cole Hatfield walked, stole second base and scored on a hit by Adam Fuller. After Fuller stole second, Thackston had an RBI single.
Fairland didn’t score again until pushing across four runs in the fifth.
Nick Zundel and Hatfield walked and the two pulled off a double steal. Easterling put down a squeeze bunt and a throwing error allowed both runners to score.
Mitch Love, running for Easterling, went to third on a hit by Thackston and came home on Long’s sacrifice fly. Thackston scored on an error.
The final two runs scored in the sixth inning when Hatfield walked, Fuller had an RBI double and Easterling a run-scoring single.
Fairland will be at home Tuesday against Portsmouth at 5 p.m. in the Division III sectional tournament.
Symmes Valley, 10-11, hosts South Gallia Monday at 5 p.m. in the Division IV sectional tournament.
