River Valley outlasts Rock Hill in overtime, 86-81

CHESHIRE — There are three key areas in basketball: rebounding, free throws and turnovers.
The Rock Hill Redmen lost all three categories and in turn dropped an 86-81 thriller in overtime to the River Valley Raiders Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
The Redmen were edged in rebounding 34-33 and outscored at the foul line by 12 points. Rock Hill was 15 of 28 from the line while River Valley converted 27 of 43 attempts.
River Valley had just 13 turnovers to 22 for the Redmen.
K.C. Christian led four Redmen in double figures with 19 points. He also had five assists and four steals.
Matt Matney scored 15 points, Nathan Davenport had 12 points and nine rebounds, and Mike Ison drained four 3-pointers and scored 12 points for Rock Hill (5-6, 2-3 OVC).
River Valley (5-6, 2-3) was led by Jason Jones with a game-high 29 points including six 3-pointers.
Bryan Morrow scored 19 points for the Raiders and Michael Cordell had 13 points.
The game featured 16 lead changes and five ties. River Valley held its biggest lead at 78-73 with 1:57 left in overtime. Rock Hill’s biggest lead was 49-41 with 3:14 to play in the third quarter.
The Redmen held their last lead at 60-57 with 5:17 left in regulation.
Rock Hill led 15-14 after the first quarter but trailed 39-38 at the half when Jones banked in a 30-footer. Jones scored 15 points in the second quarter.
The Redmen regained the lead at 51-49 after three quarters and the game was tied 73-73 at the end of regulation.
Matney scored seven points with Davenport and Christian getting six each in the fourth quarter.
River Valley connected on 20 of 31 free throws in the second half
while the Redmen were just 8 of 19 after the break.
