Ransbottom sets record as Panthers tie for title

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Brent Ransbottom just can’t help but break records.

Ransbottom, the Chesapeake Panthers senior high jumper, was at it again Friday as he won the same event at the 71st Gazette Relays with a meet record leap of 6-feet-8.

Ransbottom has set new meet records four times this season. His efforts help the Panthers tie Doddridge County for the Class A division boys title in the two-day meet with 107 points.

Ironton’s Mandi Boykin shared high point honors in the girls Class AA meet with 22.

Boykin won the 100 and 200 meter dashes and she joined Cinnamon Fletcher, Rachel Walker and Ciara Taylor to place second in the 4×100 meter relay.

Ironton’s Marc Carter set a school record as he won the 800 meter race with a 1:56.7 time, snapping the old mark of 2:00.9 of Don Battise.

Ironton’s 4×800 relay team of Brandon Walker, Tym Vandermosten, Eric Edens and Carter was sixth but ran its best time of the year at 8:42.17.
