PAINTSVILLE, Ky. - The sky wasn’t the only place for lightning Friday night.

While thunderstorms filled the sky with lightning late Friday, the Ironton Fighting Tigers used some lightning-quick scoring to rout Allen Central 12-5 in the Tiger Classic.

Ironton clubbed four home runs including two by Dustin Preston and one each by Chad Miller and Andy Wheeler.

“We hit the ball pretty well. It was nice to see a few of our guys start to come around. We need their bats,” Ironton coach Mark Lewis said.

Miller also got the win with six strong innings. He struck out 13, walked two and allowed just three hits.

“Chad hasn’t thrown for awhile, so he got a little tired. But he threw the ball extremely well,” Lewis said.

Ironton jumped in front 3-0 in the first inning on a hit by Chris Rakes and back-to-back home runs by Miller and Preston.

Preston hit a one-out home run in the third inning to make it 4-0 and Wheeler connected after T.J. Keith reached on an error.

The lead went to 8-0 in the fourth inning on singled by Rakes, Troy Allen, Miller and Keith.

Ironton got a run in the sixth when Preston reached on an error and scored following hit by Keith and Wheeler.

The final three Ironton runs scored in the top of the seventh inning.

With two outs, Rakes was safe on an error, Tanner Reed doubled, Miller was safe on an error, Preston walked and Keith singled.

Allen Central go all of its runs in the bottom of the inning with the help of a walk, a hit batsman, two errors and two singles.

Ironton, 5-3, hosts Jackson Tuesday.
