SOUTH POINT — Time doesn’t matter to the South Point Pointers right now.

The Pointers won their second straight of the young season with a 10-0 five-inning mercy rule win over the Wayne (WV) Pioneers Wednesday.

“We played really well for this early in the season. The pitching was good, we hit the ball and defensively we played well,” Pointers coach Dave Adams said.

Led by Trenton Moore with five runs batted in, the Pointers had 10 hits to back the pitching of Justin Smith and Anthony Ross who held Wayne to just three hits.

South Point went up 1-0 in the first when Christ Brown, Tyler Smith and Justin Smith all walked and Rocky Roe was hit by a pitch.

Justin Smith hit a solo home run in the third inning to make it 2-0.

South Point then erupted for six runs in the fourth inning.

Beau Weed walked, Kyle Hughes had a bunt single and Brown was safe on an error. Moore then doubled to empty the bases.

Tyler Smith singled, Justin Smith and Roe walked and McWhorter slammed a three-run double.

The Pointers applied the mercy rule with two runs in the fifth inning.

Hughes and Brown walked, Ross was safe on a fielder’s choice and stole second to put runners at second and third base. Moore delivered a two-run single to end the game.

South Point plays at Greenup County Thursday to start off a weekend schedule that also includes Huntington, WV.

“We’ve got a tough weekend ahead of us,” Adams said.
