ALBANY — Sometimes the best laid plans can go astray.

The Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles foiled Green’s defensive strategy with a 49-35 win over the Lady Bobcats Thursday in the Division IV sectional tournament finals.

Green wanted to take away Reedsville’s top inside scoring threat Erin Weber. The plan worked as Weber scored five points and only two in the first half.

But Weber’s teammates rose to the occasion as Jessica Huff had 11 points and Katie Hayman 11 to lead the Lady Eagles.

“We were prepared to stop their inside game and we did a good job on the Weber girl. They just started hitting their outside shots. Give them credit. Their girls stepped up,” Green coach Dale Royse said.

The Lady Bobcats (12-8) struggled with their offense, falling behind 16-7 after the first quarter and scoring just two points in the second quarter as the Eagles lead grew to 32-9.

“We just couldn’t hit anything,” Royse said. “We were down 23 points at halftime and to our girls’ credit they didn’t quit. It’s a disappointing loss, but it’s great group of girls.”

Green outscored Eastern 14-4 in the third quarter to make it 36-23 but could not cut into the spread the rest of the game.

Jessica Dyer and Heidi Tackett scored eight points each to pace Green.
