SOUTH POINT — If a basketball was food, Jeremiah Taylor must have thought he had just finished an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord.
Taylor got open time after time and his teammates kept feeding him the ball Tuesday night. As a result, Taylor ate the Huntington (W.Va.) St. Joseph Fighting Irish lunch with 38 points in an 80-41 win.
Taylor made 17 field goals and four fouls shots en route to a career high point total. He also pulled down 12 rebounds.
“(St. Joseph) is not a big team and we felt like we could get the ball to Taylor. Our perimeter people did a good job getting him the ball. (Jerrell) Dean and Chase (McWhorter) did a good job picking for him and getting him open.”
Dean added 10 points and Aaron Craft scored 11 as South Point ran its record to 6-5.
Taylor had 16 points in the first quarter as South Point took a 22-15 lead.
He scored 11 points in the second quarter and the defense held the Irish to seven points to make it 42-22 at the break.
South Point outscored St. Joseph 23-11 in the third quarter as Taylor had 10 more points and it was 65-33.
