Santa Claus is coming to town, and he'll be arriving in style in Coal Grove with a parade kicking off the holiday season.
On Friday, the parade, organized by the Coal Grove Betterment Club, will leave from the village hall at 6 p.m. It will then travel to Paul Porter Park.
The parade will feature a cavalcade of favorite characters like Smokey Bear, motorcycles, antique cars, fire engines, the Dawson-Bryant High School Homecoming Queen and a few clowns.
The Dawson-Bryant High School Band will also be on hand to provide some favorite holiday songs.
When the parade arrives, cookies and hot chocolate will be served to help warm up parade watchers.
Volunteers have been working to decorate the park for the season, and visitors will be able to enjoy their efforts at the parade's conclusion when the lights will be lit.
As an added bonus, children will also get to spend some quality time on Santa's lap, giving the big guy the inside track on all their Christmas wishes.
It's the first time Coal Grove has held a parade for a few years, but organizer Juanita Markel said that she got a request to organize one, a task that she's been working on for the past few weeks.
“I've enjoyed everything about it, and I love Christmas,” Markel said. “I like to see it, and like to see the people come out and enjoy the parade, and enjoy the music. I'm looking forward to people enjoying it.”
