SHADYSIDE - The Shadyside Tigers used a punt return and an interception return for touchdowns to help blank the Symmes Valley Vikings 38-0 Saturday night in the Region 23 Division VI quarterfinal playoffs.

The Tigers (9-2) forced five turnovers and converted three of those into scores.

The Shadyside first defensive unit allowed just 127 yards and eight first downs and allowed the Vikings across the 50 just three times. Symmes Valley finished with 150 yards of total offense and 101 of that came on the ground.

Billy Merryman finished the game an impressive 9-of-16 for 186 yards and two scores. His top target on the evening was senior Shawn Maynard who caught three balls for 71 yards.

Lyle Burkhardt finished with 134 yards on 17 attempts. He also scored a touchdown.

Shadyside drew first blood with 7:39 to play in the opening quarter.
