Tri-State Worship Center hosting Family Fun Day

SOUTH POINT - Tri-State Worship Center is hosting a Family Fun Day from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the South Point Park.

The community celebration is free and everyone is invited to attend.

Festivities include kids craft tables, inflatable jump games, food, live entertainment and gift drawings.

COAD hosts tea party for caregivers, parents

SOUTH POINT - COAD Child Care Resource Network will hold a tea party for parents and caregivers during story time at 10:30 a.m. at the Briggs Lawrence County Public Library Southern Branch on Oct. 12.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about choosing quality child care, being a professional child care provider and ask questions about child development.

Chesy Octoberfest set to kick-off Saturday

CHESAPEAKE - The Chesapeake Octoberfest will be Saturday in the Chesapeake Triangle.

A 5K run will begin at 8:30 a.m. The registration fee is $15. A $50 cash award will be given to top male and female finishers and awards to the top three in each age division.

The Octoberfest Car Show will be behind the car wash on Third Avenue. Registration is from 9 to 11 a.m. and judging begins at noon.

Trophies will be given at 2 p.m. The show is open to all cars and trucks and trophies will be given for the top 25 cars.

Activities include food, entertainment, children's activities and crafts fit for the entire family.

Fairland students work on benefit concert

PROCTORVILLE - Students from Fairland High School are in the process of organizing a benefit rock concert to offer relief for Hurricane Katrina victims.

The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Ritter Park Amphitheater in Huntington, W.Va.

The event, which is an all student-driven effort, will feature various local bands from the Tri-State including Stepchain and Checkerboard.

All proceeds from the concert will help victims in need after Hurricane Katrina. More specifically, the funds will go towards emergency service workers such as firefighters, police officers and EMTs.

Although many costs have been covered, the group still is looking for sponsors and donations.
