CHESAPEAKE - Before the learning begins, parents and community members will get a chance to see the school that was built with their tax dollars.

The open house and dedication of the new Chesapeake Elementary School will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the new building. A short program will be followed by refreshments and tours.

"It's kind of a 'thank you' to everybody that's had a hand in helping out," Superintendent Sam Hall said of the program.

School officials will be introducing the people who are responsible for the building and giving taxpayers a chance to see the building that their tax money helped to build.

"Parents and any community members that would like to view the building are more than welcome to attend," Hall said.

Chesapeake has a busy schedule ahead with a kindergarten orientation and picnic at 6 p.m. on Friday evening where Board of Education members will help parents and students get ready for the start of the year, the open house, the playground construction, meetings and the start of school Aug. 19.

"I'm very pleased with the way the construction has gone," Hall said. "I feel the tax district will have a building they can be proud of for years to come and that's been our effort the whole process to get the best for our students."
