Offense keys Lady Vikings win

And the hits just keep on coming.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings had another solid offensive performance as they collected 11 hits en route to a 12-2 win over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers Tuesday.

"We're hitting the ball real well right now. We're crushing it," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said.

Erin Martin went 3-for-4 and Rebecca Capper 2-3 as the Lady Vikings backed the 3-hit pitching of Lori Harmon who struck out 13 and walked two.

The Lady Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Martin doubled to start the game and Emily Bowling singled. With two outs, Capper had a two-run single.

With one out in the second inning, Natasha Pointer was safe on an error, Kayla Justice singled and Martin had a 2-run single to make it 4-0.

The lead went to 5-0 in the third inning when Capper reached on an error, moved up on a ground out, and came around to score on two wild pitches.

Another run scored in the fourth inning when Pointer walked, stole second and came home on Bowling's base hit.

Symmes Valley extended its lead to 8-0 in the fifth inning.

Capper, Kristen Crabtree and Pointer all singled for a run while Martin later singled home two more runs.

In the sixth, Megan Coomes singled, Capper walked and Meghan Hawthorne was safe on an outfield error as two runs scored. Crabtree and Pointer reached on errors as the final run scored.

Ironton got its two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Chelcie Rowland walked with two outs, Tracy Mays reached on an error, both moved up on a passed ball and Brandi Norris had a two-run double.

Symmes Valley is now 10-2 on the season, visits Beaver Eastern Wednesday.
