CHESAPEAKE - Jeff Gilkison was a hit with his coach. The Gallipolis Blue Devils were hitless with Gilkison.

Gilkison fired a no-hitter Friday as the Chesapeake Panthers routed the Blue Devils 11-1 in six innings.

Gilkison struck out seven and walked two in going the distance.

"Jeff gave us a pretty good effort. I was happy with Jeff's throwing. He looked like he did last week," Panthers coach Joe Waugh.

Gallipolis got a

run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

Austin King struck out but reached first base on a passed ball. He stole second and went to third when Kyle Burnett reached on a fielder's choice.

Brad Caudill walked to load the bases. Greg Russell then hit into a fielder's choice.

Chesapeake finally scored twice in the third inning to take the lead for good at 2-1.

Kerstin Harris walked and P.J. Rase singled. The runners moved up on a balk and Gilkison singled in the two runs.

In the fourth, Chesapeake scored twice to lead, 4-1.

Matt Rowe doubled, Harris walked, Zach Henderson singled for a run and Rase singled for two runs.

Chesapeake pushed across four runs in the fifth inning and it was 8-1.

Cody Methax doubled and score on Matt Whitmore's base hit. Brad Eldred singled and Rowe reached on an error to score a run. A balk moved the runners up and Harris capped the uprising with a two-run single.

The final three runs scored in the sixth inning.

Cory Methax doubled, Gilkison singled and Cody Methax walked to load the bases. The runners moved up on a passed ball. Brian Huff, in a pinch-hitting role, delivered an RBI single. Huff moved up on a passed ball and scored when Michael Wright singled.

The Panthers (7-5) had 13 hits with Rase going 2-for-3 and Gilkison 2-4.
