One jailed, another injured in assault

An Ironton man is behind bars today, charged in connection with the assault of another man Monday night.
John Ratliff, 20, 1406 County Road 21, Ironton, is charged with felonious assault.
Officers were called to the Cliff Street Apartments just after 8 p.m. to investigate an assault. A resident in that neighborhood told authorities a man came to his door, bleeding badly and asked for the police and a SEOEMS squad.
The suspect was located in back of the residence a short time later by the Ace, the police department's
K-9 unit. He was taken to jail and will appear in Ironton Municipal Court today for arraignment.
Meanwhile, a Kitts Hill man will appear in municipal court today for a preliminary hearing in connection with an assault over the weekend.
Justin Shears, 22, of 8663 State Route 141, was arraigned Monday on one count of aggravated assault.
Authorities were called to the 2600 block of South Fourth Street to investigate an incident between two men.
According to a police report, the victim told officers he was sitting in his vehicle when Shears approached, asked first for a cigarette light and then started an argument.
The victim, a South Point resident, was taken to Kings' Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
Shears was arrested at his residence at a short time later and taken to jail.
