WILLOW WOOD - The turnaround is complete.

After going 7-15 last season, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings almost completely switched things around this season as they beat the East Lady Tartans 55-40 Tuesday in a makeup game and finished the season 14-6.

Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant said seniors Leslie Floyd, Brittney Wilson and Kayla McCarthy were key leaders in helping to turn their fortunes around.

"I was proud of how the girls finished the game strong as well as the season," coach Bryant said. "I was truly proud of the seniors. Leslie, Brittney and Kayla will be hard to replace. We had a complete turnaround and they were a big reason. Hopefully, we can continue this type of success next season."

The win also enabled the Lady Vikings to finish 10-4 in the Southern Ohio Conference.

"There was a lot riding on this game. We wanted to keep our second place in the league standings, and with the win we accomplished that," coach Bryant said.

Rebecca Capper had 20 points to lead the Lady Vikings offense. Tiffany Bryant had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Brigettta Thompson grabbed 11 rebounds. Floyd had seven assists and Thompson had six steals.

Holly Moore and Bridget Bear scored 11 points each for East.

The game was tied 8-8 at the end of the first quarter and then East surged ahead 28-19 at the half.

But the Lady Vikings outscored East 19-6 in the third quarter to take a 38-34 lead. Symmes Valley continued to pull away in the fourth quarter by holding East to 6 points for the second straight quarter.

"Our kids came out on fire in the second half. We finally got our offensive rhythm," coach Bryant said.

"After losing the sectional game, it was tough to find our groove. But the girls stepped up."
