GALLIPOLIS - Fairland Lady Dragons coach Nathan Speed was right.

Speed said it was difficult to win at Gallipolis, and the point was well taken Monday as the Blue Angels slipped past Fairland 52-51 in double overtime.

"(Gallipolis) is such a tough place to get a win," Speed said. "But we're still playing hard. We're not getting down. We're getting better every game."

Kara James, who led Gallipolis with 26 points, hit the first of two foul shots with 1.6 seconds left in the second overtime to give Gallipolis the win. James had all 4 of the Blue Angels' points in the extra period.

Jackie Wamsley added 14 points for the Blue Angels.

Brianna Davis had 21 points to lead Fairland (3-8). Megan Auxier had 11 points and 13 rebounds while Kara Riley pulled down 17 rebounds.

James had 8 points in the first quarter as Gallipolis took a 16-12 lead. Each team scored 6 points in the second quarter and it was 22-18 at the break.

Davis scored 7 points in the third quarter as the Lady Dragons pulled to within 32-30. Davis made two foul shots with 23 seconds left to force overtime, then converted two free throws with 12 seconds left to force a second overtime.

Fairland plays at Rock Hill Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
