WINDSOR TOWNSHIP - A Proctorville man is behind bars, accused in connection with a string of fires on an elderly Windsor Township man's property.
Ferlin Workman, 44, of 1834 Windsor Bridge Road, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree aggravated arson and one count of
fourth-degree arson.
Lawrence County Sheriff Tim Sexton said the victim has been plagued by five arson fires within the last year, four within the two months.
"He admitted to us to being there twice and twice setting fires,"
Sexton said. The sheriff declined to comment at this time on a motive for the fires but said the investigation into the matter is continuing.
Sexton said the first fire in early 2003 destroyed the elderly man's house. On Nov. 11, someone attempted to burn the mobile home in which he was living.
On Nov. 28, an attempt was made to burn a metal outbuilding on the property, but the fire was snuffed out. On Dec. 11, the mobile home was again the target. The victim also lost a boat to fire.
