PROCTORVILLE — Opponents are well aware that the Chesapeake Panthers play good defense, but this is ridiculous.

Chesapeake limited the Fairland Dragons to only seven field goals as the Panthers rolled to a 63-21 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Fairland Dragons Friday.

"We played pretty good defense. We've been playing good defense all year," Panthers coach Norm Persin said. "(Justin) Porter was pretty consistent for us. He guarded well and was active on the glass. He did a nice job rebounding."

P.J. Rase, Jeff Thornburg and Tyler Shoemaker scored 9 points each to lead the balanced Chesapeake offense. A total of 12 different players scored for the Panthers.

"We played a lot of people throughout the game, so it was hard to get in an offensive rhythm," Persin said.

Porter had seven rebounds and Brennan Hall five. Rase also had four assists.

Chesapeake is now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference. All of the Panthers win have been by 14 points or more.

Fairland 0-5 and 0-2, was led by Kyle Wise, Josh Johnson and Travis Cardwell with 5 points each.

"We weren't very good offensively, but we were better defensively," Fairland coach Chad Belville said.

The Panthers scored the first 18 points of the game including a 16-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Chesapeake's defense limited the Dragons to only seven total field goals for the game including a pair of 3-point goals.

For the game, Chesapeake shot 23 of 47 from the floor for 49 percent. Fairland made only 7 of 30 attempts for 23 percent.
