WILLOW WOOD - Patience is a great virtue. It's also a good way to win a basketball game.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings used a patient offense in the fourth quarter to pull away from the St. Joseph Female Flyers 62-48 Monday.

The Lady Vikings' pressure helped build a 33-18 halftime lead. But Christina Harvey scored 8 points in the third quarter to draw St. Joseph within 40-36.

"We pressed a lot and got a big lead the first half, but we came out the second half and played a little too relaxed," Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant said. "But

St. Joe is much improved over last year and they got back in the game. Give them credit."

The Flyers closed the gap to 43-40 before the Lady Vikings pulled away as Megan Coomes converted 7 of 10 free throws and Brigette Thompson was 4 of 4.

"We were just more patient the fourth quarter," Bryant said.

Rebecca Capper led Symmes Valley (1-0) with 16 points. Megan Coomes had 14 points and five steals, Leslie Floyd 11 points, three assists and four steals.

Capper also had seven steals and three assists. Brigette Thompson added 10 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Tiffany Bryant had eight rebounds for the Lady Vikings.

Harvey finished with 17 points to lead St. Joseph.
