WALTON COUNTY, Ga. - Three area children who were reported missing late last week have been located and their mother and a friend have been arrested and charged in connection with the childrens' disappearance.
Albert Wayne, Kellie Rose and Michael Douglas Turvey were located late Sunday evening at a residence in Loganville, Ga. Their mother, Cheryl Turvey, a.k.a Cheryl Jenkins, 28, whose last known address was 2608 S. Eighth St., Ironton, was taken into custody by Walton County Sheriff's deputies and charged with kidnapping. She may also face additional charges in connection with the incident, Lawrence County Sheriff Tim Sexton said. Her companion, Jeremy Schwab, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in local courts regarding a recent guilty plea to drug charges. Sexton said since he failed to appear in court when he was scheduled to do so, Schwab may also face escape charges in connection with this incident.
The mother was supposed to have had the children for a four-hour visitation Wednesday, but when she did not return with the children, the father of the children contacted local authorities.
Sexton said his deputies made the case a priority since three youngsters were involved.
"We investigated this very intensively over the weekend," Sexton said. "We were very concerned since the male and female suspects
were previously involved in drug trafficking cases, case of crack cocaine. We didn't know if they might be dragging the children into an environment they have no business being around; we just didn't know what they might be around."
Sexton said deputies were told the children and adults could have been in northern Ohio, in Huntington, W.Va., at two residences in Georgia, and were in Tennessee but possibly headed to Florida.
Turvey and Schwab were scheduled to appear Monday in Walton County Superior Court for an extradition hearing, according to Steve Cardin of the Walton County Sheriff's Office.
