Lawrence County residents who want to learn about law enforcement will get their chance later this month when classes begin in the second-annual Citizens Police Academy.
Started in 2003 by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, the 14-hour course covers topics such as laws of arrests, search and seizure, corrections, sheriff's office budgeting and an overview of the criminal justice system.
Lawrence County Sheriff Tim Sexton said the tentative dates for the classes are Aug. 14, 17, 19, 21, 24, 28 and 31, with each class being approximately two hours in length.
