If this had been a baseball game, the South Point Lady Pointers would have hit a 400-foot home run.

Despite winning just four of 17 events, South Point had enough contributions throughout its lineup to win the Ironton Invitational 125 to 110 over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers.

"South Point just had a little more depth than we did. They've got a nice team," Ironton coach Tim Thomas said.

Rock Hill finished third with 89 points, followed by Fairland with 71, Coal Grove 66 and Chesapeake had 41 points.

"We did OK. The only disappointments were some things we couldn't control. We had some girls who weren't able to run some other events because they tightened up or haven't been able to practice," Thomas said.

South Point's Sarah Lee won the 200 meter dash and the high jump, the team's only individual wins. The Lady Pointers 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams also came away with victories.

Brianna McCown was Ironton's only double winner as she took first place in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Mandi Boykin, a freshman, upset South Point's Porcha Ball in the 100 meter dash.

Ironton's 4×400 relay team of Ciara Taylor, Danielle Henderson, Kayla Brislin, and Rachael Payne won with a 6:28.3 clocking. The 4×100 relay team of Kim Murphy, Dustin Owens, Lissa Hensley, and Katie Washburn was second, as was the 4×200 relay of Murphy, Megan Crockrel, Washburn, and Krista Markel.

Allison Hicks, Melanie Elkins, Brittany Walker, and Brislin were fifth in the 4×800 relay.

Rock Hill's Cassie Chaffins was the only three-time winner as she claimed first place in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles as well as the long jump.
