Dragons romp in opener

TOLSIA, W.Va. - The Fairland Dragons got what they wanted.

Opening the baseball season, Fairland got a win and was able to empty its bench in a 26-0 rout of the Tolsia Rebels.

"We got a win and we got to play a lot of people," Fairland coach Roger Snyder said. "It's always good to open with a win and give everyone a chance to play."

Cory McKnight fired a two-hitter and Greg Boster and Nick Bloomfield homered to trigger a 21-hit attack.

McKnight struck out 10 and walked just one in going the distance. He also went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two runs batted in.

Michael Hill was 4-6 with a triple and three RBIs. Boster and Bloomfield were 2-3, Matt Clark and Bo Adams 2-4 and Nick Zundel 2-2.

After Fairland took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, Boster hit a three-run homer and Bloomfield had a two-run shot just three batters later and it was 9-0 in the second inning.

The Dragons scored eight more runs in the third and erupted for 11 runs in the fourth inning.
