Vikings blast Titans in SOC

WILLOW WOOD - Playing on back-to-back nights proved to be easier than expected for the Symmes Valley Vikings.
After beating New Boston on Monday in a close game, the Vikings routed the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 75-34 Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
"We won a tough game on Monday, and I was afraid we might have been looking ahead to Clay on Friday. But we played pretty well," Vikings coach Alvin Carpenter said.

Kyle Gilmore had a game-high 21 points to lead four players in double figures for the Vikings (9-8, 8-4 SOC). Chris Elswick had 11 points, six assists and five steals. Jarred Shafer scored 11 points and handed out six assists and Matt Owens scored 11.
"They keyed on Shafer and he kicked it back outside. He and Elswick did a nice job," Carpenter said.
Elswick had seven
as the Vikings led by as many as 14 points in the first quarter.
The lead was 28-17 at the break.
"We got a little sloppy at the end of the first half, but then we picked it up the second half," Carpenter said.

Symmes Valley picked its game up in the third quarter as Gilmore erupted for 16 points and the lead was now 57-24.
Matt Owens and Ian Runyon scored six each in the fourth quarter as the Vikings continued to build on their lead.
Charlie Doll scored 19 to pace the Titans (1-16, 0-13).
