PROCTORVILLE - Nathan Speed liked what he saw on the court. He liked what he saw in his players' faces even better.

After a 71-63 overtime win over Gallipolis, Speed was praising his players who avenged an earlier loss to the Blue Angels.

"That's a good win for us. You can just see the confidence in our kids' faces. Put that with the fact they play hard every night, and that we're not real big, and you can see they play with a lot of heart," Speed said.

Fairland's Kristen Berry made two straight layups off passes from Megan Fisher to start the overtime and put the Lady Dragons up 65-61.

The Fairland defense came up with two defensive stops in between the baskets, thus forcing Gallipolis to foul. The Lady Dragons then converted 6 of 8 from the line with Fisher sinking 5 of 6.

Brianna Davis had seven points in the first quarter as Fairland took a 17-12 lead.

The lead went to 35-24 at the half as Davis scored seven more points in the second quarter.

Jackie Wamsley erupted for 13 points in the third quarter as Gallipolis pulled to within 44-40.

Davis had seven more points in the fourth quarter, but Wamsley had nine points as Gallipolis tied the game at 61-61.

Fairland (8-6) was led by Davis with 22 points. Fisher had 13 points and five assists, Berry 11 points and 17 rebounds, and Kara Riley had 10 of the team's 35 rebounds.

"We're not big, but our girls think every rebound and every loose ball is theirs. They're not timid inside," Speed said.

Wamsley had 24 points and Kari James 12 - eight in the first half - to pace Gallipolis (8-6).
