PEDRO - It all came down to the foul line.

The Wheelersburg Lady Pirates were able to convert at the line while the Rock Hill Redwomen didn't. As a result, Wheelersburg came away with a 50-38 non-league win Saturday.

The Lady Pirates were 12 of 18 from the line to Rock Hill's 6 of 17. The Redwomen were also plagued by 24 turnovers.

"Wheelersburg is a good team. I think they've surprised some people with their record," Rock Hill coach Bob Wilds said. "But our girls hung in there and played hard. The game was closer than the final score."

Twin sisters Monica and Marie Bamer led Rock Hill (3-9). Monica had 12 points and eight rebounds while Marie had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Bobbi Harper added eight points including a pair of 3-pointers.

Haley Messer scored 19 points and Maggie Howe 17 to pace Wheelersburg, 12-2. Brittany Meenach came off the bench to score 12 points."If we make a few more free throws and some layups, you never know. We missed four layups to start the game and that set the tone for us," Wilds said.

The teams played to a 6-6 tie at the end of the first quarter. Howe then scored eight points in the second quarter as Wheelersburg inched ahead 20-16 at the half. Monica Bamer scored four points and Bobbi Harper and Marie Bamer had three each.

Despite five points by Monica Bamer in the third quarter, the Redwomen lost a little ground and trailed 30-25 heading into the final quarter.

Marie Bamer scored five points in the fourth quarter, but Meenach had 10 points and Messer eight more for the Lady Pirates.

Foul shooting became a key factor in the final quarter as Wheelersburg made 5 of 8 attempts over the final two minutes. Rock Hill was just 2 of 9 in the quarter.
