New Boston stops Green

NEW BOSTON - The Green Bobcats are having their good moments, but they're still having some bad ones, too.

Short scoreless period continued to haunt the young Bobcats as the New Boston Tigers pulled away late to win 86-76 Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

"I think at times we're playing extremely well, but at times we're having those two or three minute lapses where we get outscored 8-0 or 9-0. We're doing a good job, but we're not getting a full 32 minutes," Green coach Kevin Lewis said.

Aaron Patten scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Green (3-6, 2-2). Tim Yarnell had 17 points and 10 rebounds while Derek Lewis added 16 points and three assists.

Zach Messer scored 25 points to lead five players in double figures for New Boston. Matt Marshall scored 18, Aaron Spriggs 14, Greg Mauk 13, and Michael Day 11.

Marshall scored eight points in the first quarter as New Boston took an 18-16 lead. Derek Lewis kept Green close with five points.

In the second quarter, Spriggs scored six to help offset eight by Yarnell and New Boston pulled away to a 42-32 lead.

"For a three-minute period before halftime, the game goes from a two-point game to a 10-point game. We spent the entire second trying to catch up. We just aren't consistent enough," Lewis said.

The Tigers opened up a 17-point lead early in the third quarter only to have Green cut into the lead at 54-51 as Lewis and Patten scored seven points each.

Messer scored 14 points in the fourth quarter as he converted 14 of 16 from the foul line. Patten had 10 of his points in the quarter.

On Friday, Green hosts Western Pike in a league game.
