LOGAN - Things went from bad to good.
After losing on Saturday, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak with a win Sunday in the Wendy's Logan Holiday Classic.
The Lady Panthers lost 44-33 to the Waverly Lady Tigers on Saturday, then bounced back with a 56-46 win over the Vinton County Lady Vikings Sunday.
Shooting was the major thorn in Chesapeake's side against Waverly. The Lady Panthers were only 3 of 20 from the foul line and shot 27 percent from the field.
Ashley Borden scored 14 points the first half as Waverly took a 26-15 lead.
"We dug ourselves a hole and couldn't dig out," Lady Panthers coach Chad Belville said. "After starting so bad, we played even the rest of the way."
Borden finished with 19 points and Elizabeth Crocker 10. Jennifer Rice had nine points to lead Chesapeake.
Sunday was a totally different story as the Lady Panthers had their best offensive output of the season.
"We played with no intensity Saturday. We weren't on the same page. It was like we were playing in a purple haze," Belville said.
"But (Sunday night) was a little better. We took a step in the right direction. We forced a lot of turnovers and we played a lot more aggressively and with some confidence."
Perry had 18 points, 10 assists and four steals as Chesapeake evened its record at 4-4. Noelle Wood had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Rice added eight rebounds.
"We played extremely well defensively the first half, and then we played well offensively the second half. Now we need to put four quarters together on both ends of the floor But it was better. We were more aggressive," Belville said.
Chesapeake led 9-6 at the end of the first quarter. Sara Rucker, a 6-foot-2 freshman, was inserted into the lineup in the second quarter and she promptly blocked three shots and scored four points.
"I was proud of the way Sara played. Sara came in and blocked three shots and scored twice. She provided a spark for us," Belville said. "Noelle played her best offensive game of the season."
Vinton County made just three field goals the first half as Chesapeake took a 20-13 halftime lead.
Perry scored 10 of her points in the third quarter as the Panthers were up 37-30.
Vinton County cut the deficit to four and five points in the fourth quarter, but Perry and Brittany Boyle hit 3-pointers to break the momentum each time.
"Every time they got close, we hit a big three," Belville said.
Wood scored eight points in the fourth quarter and Perry added six as Chesapeake held on to win.
Holley Pridemore had 13 points for Vinton County which made 23 of 35 foul shots.
In other tournament games Sunday, Logan beat Waverly 54-42, Minford topped Athens 70-67 and Columbus Bexley routed Oak Hill 61-43.
