Free breakfasts, lunches on the plate in Rock Hill schools

PEDRO-The old saying nobody gets anything for free may be true elsewhere, but Rock Hill School students are finding the adage does not apply to them. The Rock Hill School Board has voted to offer every student in the district free breakfast and free lunch daily for the next four years.
"We are the only school district that I know of, anywhere in the state that is offering every student a free breakfast and a free lunch," Superintendent Lloyd Evans said.
The parents of every student are encouraged to fill out and return applications and to encourage all students to participate in the program. The success of the Universal Feeding Program depends on the receipt of completed applications and on 100 percent participation by Rock Hill Local School District students. The program allows schools to receive partial reimbursement from the USDA and the state for all meals.
Evans said the program will eliminate any stigma associated with traditional "free" and reduced-price lunch/breakfast programs.
