Ironton Police have recovered a van stolen from a residence on South Seventh Street, and have made an arrest in connection with the incident.
Ironton Police detective Jim Akers said Charles Smith, 30 of 2628 S. Fourth St., was arraigned Thursday in Ironton Municipal Court on a charge of grand theft.
The owner reported a 2002 Honda Odyssey missing Tuesday. Later, Ironton Police received a call from authorities in West Virginia, alerting them that the van had been driven to the Wal-Mart store in Huntington.
Smith allegedly was at the store and created a commotion. Witnesses said they saw Smith leave in a green van, and got the license plate number. The information was reported to West Virginia State Police, who alerted Ironton police. Ironton police went to the store and watched the video tape.
Obtaining identification of the suspect, police went to Smith's workplace in Chesapeake. The van was recovered later in Huntington.
Smith remains in the Lawrence County Jail.
