Canoes, garage sale holidays, markets and Broadway musicals are just some of the activities Lawrence County residents can enjoy this weekend.
At 7 a.m. Saturday morning, Farmers Market will begin in Ironton. Later in the morning, Jo-Lin Health Center residents will celebrate National Garage Sale Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the center's activity room. Anyone wishing to participate in this may call Peg Dyer at 532-6096 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. by Friday. Starting at around the same time, the Symmes Creek Restoration Committee will sponsor its fifth annual Canoe Caper at the Chesapeake Village Boat Ramp. The event, starting at 9:30 a.m., is free for the public.
In its 10th season, the Ashland Summer Musical Theatre on the College Drive Campus of Ashland Community and Technical College will present "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." The performances will be both Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. This Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical is a modern take on the Old Testament story of Joseph and his coat of many colors, set to various musical styles including country, pop and rock.
Tommy Gillespie, a junior at St. Joseph High School and Ashland, Ky., resident, has the lead role of Joseph. Several other Ironton residents will appear in the play, including Jennifer Rogers, Jenny Bellville and Michelle Wilson. Tickets will be $6 for adults and $4 for seniors, students, ACTC faculty and staff and groups of 10 or more people. Tickets for ACTC students are $2. Tickets may be picked up at the ACTC Bookstore or reserved by calling (606) 326-2014 or 1-800-370-7191 ext. 2014.
