GNADENHUTTEN - The Ironton Fighting Tigers didn't get all the wins they wanted, but they did get their bats swinging.
Ironton collected 28 hits in three games during a weekend trip to Indian Valley.
The Fighting Tigers outscored Indian Valley 10-9 on Friday, then lost 4-3 to River View Saturday morning and 8-4 to Indian Valley Saturday afternoon.
"We had been hitting the ball pretty well the past couple of games and we kept hitting over the weekend," Ironton coach Mark Lewis said. "Nick Collins was a bright spot. He hit the ball well. And (Tyler) Whaley and (Matt) White hit some shots."
Whaley and White hit two home runs apiece in Friday's 10-9 win over the Indian Valley Braves. The duo combined for five hits and eight runs batted in.
Jameson McKnight, the second of three pitchers, got the win while Josh Sands struck out the final two batters to record the save.
Whaley homered in the top of the first, but a grand slam in the bottom of the inning put the Braves up 4-1.
The Fighting Tigers trailed 6-1 in the fourth when White slugged a 3-run homer. Sands then doubled, Collins singled and Greg Mountain was safe on an error as a run scored.
Ironton took the lead for good in the fifth when Whaley hit a 2-run homer, White tripled, and Jeff Parnell had an RBI single.
White's 2-run homer in the seventh gave Ironton a 10-8 lead.
River View scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to slip past Ironton.
Derek Moore had a 2-run single in the sixth inning that put Ironton up 3-2, but River View got an unearned run in the bottom of the inning, then used a singled, sacrifice bunt, and two-out base hit to score the winning run.
Three unearned runs and a 2-run homer by Higgenbottom in the seventh inning lifted Indian Valley past Ironton in the final game.
Kevin Williams slammed a 2-run home run for Ironton in the second inning that gave the Fighting Tigers a 3-2 lead. But the Braves (11-5) tied the game in the bottom of the inning and and scored twice in the third inning to take the lead for good.
"We just seemed like we were out of gas the last game. I think between the trip and three games in two days we were a little tired," Lewis said.
Ironton (6-6) plays at Rock Hill Monday, then visits South Point and hosts Russell, Ky., on Tuesday.
