OAK HILL -- Wins were difficult to come by early, but they've been piling up like the Great Wall of China the past three weeks for the Rock Hill Redmen.

The Redmen won their sixth straight Wednesday as they cut down the Oak Hill Oaks 74-44. Rock Hill is now 11-8 on the season.

"Oak Hill beat Minford last week and Minford beat Lucasville Valley, so we knew they were playing well coming into the game," Rock Hill coach Marty Mills said. "We jumped on them early and played good defense."

Rock Hill's defense held the Oaks to just 8 points in both the first and fourth quarters.

"We contested every shot they had. They didn't shoot the ball well. We shot the ball well as a team. We got good shots around the rim. The kids are understanding where to take a shot," Mills said.

Rickie McDonie scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace the Redmen. Dave Schug turned in a strong performance with 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals.

K. C. Christian added 10 points and Gabe Ruggles had five assists.

"We had three kids in double figures and 10 people score, so that's a plus. Having 10 people score is getting to be regular for us. We're a pretty unselfish ballclub right now," Mills said.

McDonie had 8 points, Schug 7 and Christian 6 in the first quarter as Rock Hill took a commanding 23-8 lead.

Seven different players scored in the second quarter as Rock Hill extended its lead to 39-18 at the break.

Oak Hill trimmed the deficit to 54-37 in the third quarter despite 6 points by McDonie.

But the Redmen blitzed the Oaks 20-8 in the fourth quarter to win going away.

Oak Hill was led by Tyler Evans with 19 points while John Allen had 12.
