Accused counterfeiters out on bond

A Lawrence County couple accused of trying to produce counterfeit money had an initial appearance Friday in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati.
Rebecca Porter and Dwayne Porter, both of 220 Private Drive 183, Ironton, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Jack Sherman, who released each of the Porters on their own recognizance.
Rebecca Porter was taken into custody Thursday by Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies and agents with U.S. Secret Service. Lawrence County Sheriff Tim Sexton said he received information that the two were allegedly trying to make fake currency at Porter's home, using a computer and a laser printer. According to the information, the Porters were allegedly going to try to place the currency in circulation.
Dwayne Porter turned turned himself in to federal authorities in Cincinnati Friday.
Sexton said authorities located a $100 bill and two weapons during a search of the residence.
