A plan by Adelphia Cable Co. to add an adult channel to its local lineup is getting thumbs down from county leaders. The Lawrence County Commission yesterday agreed to send a letter to the cable company executives, asking them to reconsider their decision to add the adult channel.
"A number of people have asked me about this," Commission President George Patterson said. "They don't want this channel. There's no way to block it out. They don't want their kids to see this."
One resident, Fred Wells, who attended the commission meeting, said he would rather see something more useful added to the television lineup.
"What about Ohio News Network ?" Wells asked. "Why can't we get that?"
Adelphia plans to add the adult channel for its digital subscribers in March or April.
Last week, Ironton City Council sent a letter to Adelphia area manager Steve Trippe, voicing concerns about the company's plans. City leaders said they have had phone calls from concerned citizens who do not see the adult channel as a viable choice for television viewing.
