UNION TOWNSHIP -- A West Virginia woman was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle collision off of State Route 7.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Robin R. Shultz, of Dunbar, W. Va., was traveling eastbound on County Road 15 (Buffalo Creek) in her 1999 Chevy Blazer at approximately 10 a.m.
Shultz, 38, failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection with State Route 7. Her vehicle was struck by a southbound 1999 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Michael Welch, 33, of Chesapeake.
Shultz's vehicle flipped and came to a stop upside down in the median. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dispatcher Gil LeBlanc of the Highway Patrol's Ironton Post said that the exact nature of her injuries were
still unknown.
Welch, 33, suffered only minor injuries and was not transported for treatment. His flatbed trailer was empty at the time of the accident.
LeBlanc said that the report did not indicate that the icy road conditions had any bearing on the accident.
No charges have been filed at this time and none are expected, LeBlanc said.
However, the crash remains under investigation. Because no witnesses have come forward, the Highway Patrol wants to encourage anyone with information on the accident to contact the Ironton Post.
